Joel Timmerman completed his law degree at the University of Western Ontario in 2006 and was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2007. After his call to the bar, Joel focused on motor vehicle accident claims, occupier’s liability, employment law, and accident benefits matters. Following several years in private practice, Joel spent over a decade working in-house as legal counsel at a major Canadian property and casualty insurance company. The experience of working in-house provided unique perspectives and opportunities to develop his legal, analytical and risk management skills. Joel is particularly grateful for the opportunity he had to manage and lead one of the in-house legal teams, including coaching and mentoring lawyers, while providing legal advice on complex large loss matters.

Following a season as an executive director of a local youth-focused not-for-profit, Joel is excited to be part of the Shillington McCall team. Joel is particularly energized by working collaboratively to find an appropriate and effective solution for each client. His approach to litigation is to understand each client and their specific goals, and to provide recommendations and solutions that will meet those goals in an efficient and results-oriented way.

Joel is a member of the Middlesex Law Association & Canadian Defence Lawyers Association. Outside the office, Joel has recently completed a master’s degree at Tyndale University, and enjoys cheering for long-suffering sports franchises, connecting over a good board game, and attempting to make his two teenagers laugh.
